UEFA Champions League Final 2024

This years UEFA Champions league final was held in London on the iconic Wembley Stadium. The game was action packed with Dortmund showing much more in the first half.

Real Madrid tried to get their 15th UEFA Champions League title and extending their record even more. The next to follow is Milan who has 7 titles. This just shows the domination of Real Madrid in this competition!

The starting eleven:

First Half

First half was really action packed. Borussia Dortmund created way more chances in front of Real Madrid’s goal. They had 8 shots compared to Real Madrid’s two. Dortmund attacked mainly through counter-attacks. Big chances missed start piling for Dortmund from 20th to 42nd minute. Adeyemi even hit the post in 23rd minute of the first half! Sabitzer closed the first half with long range shot only to be denied by one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Thibaout Courtois. In between, Dortmund missed several more chances through Adeyemi and Niclas Fullkrug.

Slavko Vincic, referee from Slovenia, showed three yellow cards in the first half. Sabitzer and Schlotterbeck for arguments in 40th and 43rd minutes respectively. For Real Madrid, Vinicius received yellow card in 35th minute for the foul against goalkeeper of Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund had five corners while Real Madrid had one corner! Despite having possession in the first half, it must be said that Borussia Dortmund was a better team with all stats are taken into consideration!

First half finished without goals.

Second Half

Second half started little slower than the first half ended! The play was mainly in the middle of the pitch. Real Madrid continue to attack through Vinicius on the left wing.

First chance for Real Madrid occurred in 58th minute after the good cross from Vinicius. Carvajal received the ball and took a shot only to be denied by Gregor Kobel.

Borussia Dortmund answered in the 63rd minute with great play. However, Niclas Fullkrug missed header from some 12, 13 meters. The header went directly in Courtois which he just parry the ball away.

The man who played a final in 2013 against Bayern Munich, Marco Reus replaced Adeyami in 72nd minute. This was his second final. First one, he lost against Munich, on the same stadium, Wembley.

As it usually happens in football, when you miss so many chances, you need to expect that you will be punished. Exactly that happened. After sixth corner, Real Madrid took the lead. Toni Kroos crossed the ball and Carvajal scored a beautiful header in 75th minute.

In 77th minute, Bellingham missed the best chance he had in entire game. He missed to scored from some 7 meters from the goal. The ball went centimeters near the right post.

Matts Hummels received yellow card in the 79th minute after the foul at the edge of the area.

Toni Kroos took the freekick from some 25 meters from the goal. It was nice shot but Kobel did not have issues to save his goal.

Camavinga took a shot from 30 meters which Kobel pass it to corner. After the corner, Natcho had a chance to score the header. Kobel again saved his team! In the 82nd minute, Dortmund players lost the ball 25 minutes from their goal. Real did not have issues to take the chance and score for 2:0. Vinicius scored the goal. This was the period of ultimate domination shown by Real Madrid players.

Dortmund scored the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for Real Madrid, VAR showed that it was and offside by Niclas Fullkrug.

Real Madrid won 2:0. Vinicius and Carvajal scored the goals.

Real Madrid have won their 15th UEFA Champions League title in 18 appearances in finals. They extended their record which is hardly to be matched in the near future!
