Players That Played For One Club Only

Football as we know it today is all about money. Players are mostly going to the highest bidder. Some of them choose the best financial offers while some still seek for the glory and choose a club with the ambitions and real chance of winning trophies. But, of course, everyone have the right to choose what they want.

Sometimes it was not that easy to switch clubs, but thanks to Bosman, this became more usual which created various possibilities for the footballers.

However, there are many players out there who were satisfied with what they have, thus remaining faithful to one club. The list is really long but I will name 10 players that remain at one club throughout entire career and thus winning everything or almost everything in their club careers.

1. Bobby Charlton

He is one of the most adored players by Manchester United fans. During his career he scored 249 goals in 758 appearances. He held the record as a player who scored the most goals for Red Devils, until Wayne Rooney broke it in 2017. Charlton won 3 league titles and one European Cup. He also survived the Munich air disaster back in 1958.

2. Ryan Giggs

While we are at Manchester United, this list could not go without Ryan Giggs. The Welshman won total of 34 trophies in a very successful career including 13 Premier Leagues, 2 Champions Leagues and 2 FA Cups. What is interesting is the fact that Giggs played almost his entire career under sir Alex Ferguson.

3. Franceso Totti

He played for Roma for 25 years. Although there were some rich offers, he refused them all. He devoted his life to Roma. During these 25 years, he won one Serie A titles, two Italian Cups, and two Italian Super Cups. When you just take a look at his stats and achievement, it is really pity that he didn’t won more trophies and especially the Champions League. Totti is the highest goal scorer and most capped player in the history of Roma.

4. Carles Puyol

5. Paolo Maldini

One of the best defenders in the history of football, Maldini spent his entire career in AC Milan. This is nothing strange since Maldini family is devoted to Milan. Before Paolo, his father played as well for Milan, and now Paolo’s son is also playing for the same club. Paolo Maldini made 902 appearances in the span of 25 years spent in the club. He retired in 2009, after which Milan retired shirt number 3 in his honor.

6. Lionel Messi

In this list, we came to the player who won everything, several times. He has won the Champions League in 4 occasions, La Liga nine times. Messi has 5 Ballons D’or in his possession. Out of major trophies, he lacks only one with the national team. Nevertheless, he is most likely the best player that ever played. Luckily, we are fortunate enough to live in the time when two of the greatest are playing football, him and Cristiano Ronaldo.

7. Sandro Mazzola

Sandro played 17 seasons in Inter Milan. During this period he scored 160 games in 565 games, having won four league titles, and two European Cups.

Another player that spent 20 years in one club. Bergomi, unlike Baresi played for Inter Milan from 1979 to 1999. In his 20-year career, he made 756 appearances in which he won the UEFA Cup in 3 occasions.

10. Jamie Carragher

Fun fact about Jamie is that even though he was Everton fan, he acquired the status of Liverpool legend. He spent 17 years at Anfield in which he made 508 appearances. Major success for Jamie is the Champions League trophy in 2005 after beating AC Milan on penalties.

As I stated at the beginning, the list of the players is very big. These are only some of the players that dedicated their careers to one club only.

  2. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s
    both educative and interesting,
and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.

    The problem is something not
enough people are speaking intelligently about.
Now I’m very happy I found this in my search for something concerning this.
